Bangladesh is widely acclaimed for its economic and social
progress by the time it has completed half a century after its independence.
On the other hand, there are some formidable challenges
facing the country e.g. vulnerability to the impact of climate change,
political uncertainty and weak governance.
The policies adopted y various ruling governments have
greatly contributed towards such progress and challenges. The political
philosophies of the ruling parties guided the policies pursued for development.
Five Year
Plans (FYPs)
The first FYP was prepared in 1973 for the period FY1973 to
FY 1978. After the end of the period, a Two Year Plan during FY 1978-FY 1980,
was charted and subsequently three more FYPs were put into action (covering FY
1980 to FY 1995).
