The form/system of governance present in Bangladesh

Describe the form/system of governance present in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh has a parliamentary system or parliamentary democracy. According to Wikipedia :

"A parliamentary system or parliamentary democracy is a system of democratic governance of a state (or subordinate entity) where the executive derives its democratic legitimacy from its ability to command the support ("confidence") of the legislature, typically a parliament, and is also held accountable to that parliament."

In a parliamentary system the executive derives its legitimacy / justification due to the support from the legislature / parliament (e.g. by holding majority seats in the parliament).

The difference between a parliamentary and a presidential system is that, in the first one, the head of state and head of executive government are two distinct persons. Whereas, in the later one,  the head of state often is also the head of executive government. Moreover, in the later one, the executive does not derive its democratic legitimacy from the legislature.

Two Types of Parliamentary Democracies

1.  Constitutional Monarchies, where a monarch is the head of state while the head of government is almost always a member of parliament.

2. Parliamentary Republics, where a mostly ceremonial president is the head of state while the head of government is regularly from the legislature/parliament. Obviously Bangladesh falls in the second category.

Other Characteristics of the form of governance in Bangladesh

1. Unitary: Bangladesh is a unitary state where a state/country is governed as a single entity and the central government is ultimately supreme. A unitary state stands at sharp contrast to federations or federal states.

2. Dominant Party System/ One Party Dominant System: When a single party remains in power for more than one consecutive terms that party is called dominant party and the system is called dominant party system or One Party Dominant System. In such system, a single political party dominates over running opposition groups/parties in terms of election results.

Note: In a parliamentary system only the executive is typically referred to as the government and the legislature is often referred to as "Parliament" or simply "the legislature".

The Language Movement: A summary of its Significance for Bangladesh

The Language Movement The language movement is a very significant event in the history of Bangladesh. It is actually a series of events regarding the issue of what would be the status of Bangla/Bengali language in the newly formed Pakistan in 1947. How language movement paved the way to the independence of Bangladesh? The movement played a great role in subsequent independence of Bangladesh in 1971 in a number of ways. First, The language issue had huge economic implications for Bengalis ( See the related article on BBC Bangla ). If only Urdu was made the national language of Pakistan, the Bengalis of East Pakistan would lag behind in terms of government jobs in different sectors including defense forces. The Bengali Muslims supported the cause of Pakistan for their economic freedom and development. The insistence of Urdu by the rulers disappointed the Bengali people from the very outset. The culturally oppressive decision by the central government led to form and strengthen the langua...
